"Gone a Hexing"

This is the piece I have been working on all fall. It contains some of the elements I learned at Karen Ruane's course this summer.

The background is silk, the top surface a variety of silks and embroidered cottons. The interior upper hexagons are knit in a silk yarn. The lower two are of silk.

I think it will look a lot better when it is backed and photographed off the kitchen table.

Upper right corner, scrim embroidered with free motion machine work, cotton threads and silk scraps.

The upper left edge, with more embroidered hexagons, some beading.

The lower left edge, embroidered hexagons.

The lower left bottom, a sort of gathered bunch of fabric. French knots, beading and mirrors (hardly visible).

The bottom right corner Billions of bullion knots in a variety of thread sizes above a border of smocking and very old edging lace.
